About Lampwork
Beads...
What
does kiln annealing mean?
As each
bead is made, it is slipped into a digitally controlled kiln to
allow the glass molecules to slow down and cool at a proper rate.
This strengthens the core of each bead, making them less prone to
stress fractures and breakage.
Can
your beads still break?
Yes. As
with any glass object, beads will break if continually mishandled,
dropped or otherwise misused. Kiln annealing assures durability but
cannot guarantee against breakage with abnormal usage.
Why
are lampwork beads so expensive?
When you
purchase an artist's beads, you are also purchasing a piece of
imagination and creativity. The artist may also factor in such
things as the amount of time a certain technique requires, the price
of glass (which can sometimes be expensive), overhead costs like the
price of fuel, maintenance of torches and equipment, classes and so
on. It's very difficult as an artist to place a number on a
'piece of yourself', and you will see a wide variation in pricing
out there. Ultimately, artists will charge what they feel their art
is worth, and it is up to you as a buyer to judge for yourself
whether you place the same value in that particular
piece.
Warning
As with
any small object, our beads are not intended for children under
the age of 5 as they may present a choking hazard. Please
